Empowering Others

If you’ve ever been in a situation where you couldn’t be two places at the same time, then you’ve probably had to choose based on priorities. We’ve all been in situations where the constraints on time have either helped or hindered our plans, but in any case, we are called to make a choice.

Currently, in my leadership role with ReachAcross, I have been learning that part of my responsibility is delegation; and in that, I have found that the time taken to empower the person or people who I delegate to is almost as important, if not more, than the task itself.

Empowerment instils a sense of confidence and ownership, beyond just the task at hand. It is also what makes a follower into a potential leader. Through the responsibilities given to people who have the ability to step up to meet the need, their hidden talents actually shine brighter in these moments.

It reminds me of the everyday responsibilities that we all have; as one of the greatest needs of the hour is to identify how to do things well in the moments in life when we can pass on what we have learned to those who will take up the mantle in ways we never could have imagined.

Here’s hoping that we learn to empower those around us, not just for our own good, but for theirs.
