Graceful Giving

Life often turns out to be quite unexpected; a fork in the road, something out of the ordinary, a once in a blue moon type-of-thing. But perhaps, when we really look at it, things turn out just the way they are meant to.

I was sitting at home with my family, and it was a special occasion a few week’s ago at my parent’s house for their anniversary. The office was far from my mind, and I was relishing the opportunity to spend time with my sibling and folks.

During the middle of our conversation, when my wife and I were getting ready to leave for the drive home, I happened to check my phone, which was buzzing; and to my surprise, my jaw dropped, and, seeing my reaction, my wife and siblings quickly followed.

An unexpected gift.

Despite being there for my parent’s anniversary, and being able to give gifts to them for the occasion, I had no thought or expectation of receiving one, albeit from an anonymous source, when I received the news that ReachAcross had received its largest donation in years.

For us, as our Annual Fundraising Dinner approaches, it was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the biggest gifts are the ones we least expect, but are so richly blessed with.

As Scripture says,

A gift opens the way, and ushers the giver into the presence of the great

- Proverbs 18:16

In other words, when we give, we are reflecting the nature of the Ultimate Giver, the God who gives us life abundant, and expects us to return the favour to those around us, who are blessed immensely when we give generously.

When you gracefully give to others, you never know what type of gift you will receive in return.
