Hoping for Help
As we edge towards the end of the month, I have been reflecting more and more on the months gone by, and can’t help but realise that we often look to the past as an indicator for what will happen for our future. More often than not, we don’t look to the future in contrast to our past.
Perhaps, due to hindsight, we know that we ought to do things differently, and, of course, we surely are hopeful that things change in the course of time.
Yet, looking at Scripture, I am reminded that the past is not a reflection of future events. Seeing how many “heroes” of the faith came from families that were not faithful to the Lord, is an amazing observance that crops up time and time again.
But the one thing that we can be sure of is that the Lord remains the same, despite the times.
As the Word says,
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth”.
- Psalm 121:1-2
Amazingly, despite our ever-present need for help, God remains ever-present. Be encouraged that even though our past may not be changed, our future alone rests in His everlasting arms, and in that, we can take courage.
The God who has our future in mind, is also more than able to help us in the present, and in that we hope.
